History
INSPIRIT was founded in 2000 by Christal Brown with the sole purpose of bringing together and showcasing young African-American female artists and choreographers. While navigating her own course in the field of dance, Brown came across many young African-American female performers whom she admired and that she desired to collaborate and/or perform with. This desire prompted Brown to create INSPIRIT, a performance ensemble that combines the time and talents of female artists in Washington DC, New York, and North Carolina. These collaborations have been extremely fulfilling and it is Browns sincerest hope that the network continues to grow and encompass other emerging artists in the field.
Since its inception, INSPIRIT has performed at the Lincoln Theater of Washington DC, Aaron Davis Hall in Harlem NY, Dance Place in Washington DC, and been in Residency at Greenhouse in Litchfied CT.
The company is currently made up of nine incredibly talented women who while making their own work, also share their talents with companies such as Urban Bush Women, Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, H.T. Chen and Dancers, Nathan Trice/Rituals, etc.
